Nonfiction Outposts, Restored Cult Cinema, and Fall Gallery Openings

September 18, 2026

This week marks the opening of a dedicated nonfiction bookshop and bar in Oak Cliff, alongside new fall exhibitions and audiovisual performances across Dallas and Fort Worth.

  1. The Wild Detectives Expands with Nonfiction Space 'Ideas'

Oak Cliff staple The Wild Detectives has taken over the former Sketches of Spain space at 321 N. Zang Blvd to launch Ideas, an outpost focused exclusively on nonfiction, philosophy, science, and cultural essays. The original 8th Street storefront is now rebranded as Stories for fiction and poetry, while both venues maintain full coffee and bar setups. It establishes a dedicated neighborhood venue for thoughtful discussions, reading, and evening drinks.
